There is nothing sexier than looking and feeling your best. But, where do we begin? I’ve compiled a list of five things you can do today to start you on the path to living your most fabulous life.
#1 GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP
Beauty sleep really is a thing. Ever woken up to dark circles, pale skin, and swollen eyes. This is a sure sign you are not getting enough sleep. Not only is sleep important for bodies to recharge, but a good night’s sleep can help you look your absolute best.
Sleep really will give you beautiful glowing skin. When we sleep, our skin recovers moisture. This hydration process reduces bags under the eyes, and gives the skin a glowy essence. Likewise the skin’s blood flow increases helping to diminish under eye circles. Collagen building is another important factor for looking gorgeous. As we sleep our body repairs collagen helping to fight premature aging. So set your alarm and get that 8 hours. You won’t regret it.
#2 HYDRATE
Want to look your very best? Then you need to create a daily hydration routine. According to the Mayo Clinic, an adequate water intake for an adult woman is 11.5 cups. Yes, I know, this is going to leave you running to the bathroom all day. But hey, everyone needs a work break, so grab your favorite water bottle and fill it to the brim. I actually prefer to measure out my water in the morning and sip it throughout the day. When I’ve drained both my bottles, I know I’ve hit my hydration goal for the day. (And yes, I’ve had to chug half a water bottle before bed to make my goal!)
#3 SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN
Maybe sunscreen should have been #1. If you take away nothing else from this post, please wear your sunscreen. Trust me you’ll thank me when you’re 50 and still have the skin of a twenty-something.
Throughout the day your skin is exposed to harmful UV rays, it doesn’t matter if you’re indoors or it’s a cloudy day. Those rays are going to find your skin and do their damage. Over time these rays cause discoloration, wrinkles, and possibly skin cancer. Need more convincing? Google truck driver skin damage, you’ll never miss a day of sunscreen again.
#4 START A SKINCARE ROUTINE
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. What you really need is a quality makeup remover such as CereVe’s makeup remover or Clinques’ Take the Day off. Follow up with a gentle cleanser, a fan favorite is Neutrogena’s hydro boost. And finally, get yourself a good retinol. This miracle product decreases acne, dark spots, reduces fine lines, and so much more. Tretinoin is the gold standard in the retinol game, but you will need a prescription to get some. Don’t want to go to the dermatologist, there are plenty of online services that can help you snag this miracle cream.
#4 EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES
This is a tough one. As a person who is always on the go, I often find it difficult to consistently make healthy meals. I want to eat well, but don’t have the time to prep, chop, cook, and eat healthy every day. To combat this problem, I’ve made a few simple adjustments. For example, some fresh berries with my breakfast, lettuce and tomatoes on my sandwich, carrots and hummus for snack time. Making a few adjustments to your daily meals can go a long way.
#5 WALK, WALK, WALK
For years I thought I had to spend hours on the bike or run miles each day, turns out I was putting more stress on my body than necessary. Experts say that walking 30 minutes a day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, and boost muscle power. And the best part about walking…it’s free. No expensive gym membership or equipment to store. I like to go on walking dates with friends. It’s a great way to get in some much needed exercise and spend time with the people I love.
BONUS ADVICE: TAKE TIME FOR YOU
In today’s world, we are busy every minute of the day. From high demand jobs to packed social schedules. Don’t be afraid to say, “No!” once in a while. Taking a bit of “me” time can do wonders for the soul. Whether that’s time alone to read, meditate, or a luxurious bath you deserve to live your very best life.
